In 2001 Actor Daryl "Chill" Mitchell was paralyzed from the waist down in a motorcycle accident."It was dark and I didn't know the roads really well, I went around a bend and on the other side there was gravel, loose pavement and bam, the bike shot right underneath me. . . . I woke up five days later in the hospital." After the accident Daryl got full support from his family and friends, including Denzel Washington and Chris Tucker, who encouraged him to continue his career. He has appeared in over 17 movies including House Party, Sgt. Bilko and 10 Things I Hate About You. He has also appeared on over 20 tv shows including Law & Order and Desperate Housewives. His most recent tv show produced by FOX was called " Brothers " with NY Giants football player Michael Strahan. Daryl advises other wheelchair users to hold on to something they believe in. "You cannot do this by yourself. You need your family, your friends, faith, and love," he said. While continuing his acting career Daryl also serves as the Minority Outreach spokesperson. In 2010 Daryl won an NAACP Image Award.
